Ibaraki Nature Museum

The Ibaraki Prefectural Museum of Nature opened with the basic philosophy of “learning from the past, understanding the present, and measuring the future. The museum is characterized by the following three features.

First, the museum has a vast site area of 15.8 hectares, which includes a wooded area adjacent to Sugo Swamp and a satoyama environment such as yatsudani rice paddies. This natural environment is a valuable place for visitors to actually experience the knowledge they have learned in the main building.

Next, visitors to the Main Museum exhibit become “travelers through 4.6 billion years of time and space,” and learn about the evolution of the universe, the birth of the Earth, and the amazing workings of nature and life. Visitors can follow the exhibit’s sequence and discover the history of nature and their own involvement in the 4.6 billion years of the Earth’s history.

And finally, as the name Museum Park suggests, the Ibaraki Prefectural Museum of Nature and Natural History has a park-like atmosphere and is a place where visitors can easily enjoy themselves. It functions as a local community space where anyone can freely learn at any time.

Please take this opportunity to visit the Ibaraki Prefectural Museum of Nature and Natural Science and experience self-evolution. The permanent exhibition room displays five sections: “Space, Earth, Nature, Life, and Environment,” with special exhibitions held approximately three times a year.
