The Kashima-Kasumigaura area offers tourist attractions such as Itsukushima Shrine, Kashima Jingu Shrine, and Kasumigaura, tourist events such as the Kashima Fireworks Festival, Kikka Exhibition, and Kirakase Festival, and local gourmet foods such as Ainame, Renkon-ryori, and Yukata Burger.
Kashima City is located in the southeastern part of Ibaraki Prefecture and once prospered as the gate town of Kashima Jingu Shrine, the first shrine in Hitachinokuni. Today, the city forms the Kashima Waterfront Industrial Zone, centered on the important port of Kashima.

Kasumigaura is the totality of the waters of Nishinoura, Ura, Sotonamigaura, Kitatone River, Wanigawa River, and Hitachinokawa River.
The main water areas of Kasumigaura are Nishinoura (172 square km), Kitaura (36 square km), Sotonamigaura (6 square km), and the Hitachi-Tone River (6 square km).
