The zoo is one of the largest zoos in the northern Kanto region, and its vast grounds are home to 540 animals of about 100 species, including elephants, giraffes, lions, tigers, Ezo brown bears, capybaras, prairie dogs, and birds, allowing visitors to enjoy a wide variety of animals from small to large animals. The park offers a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean.
The daily “snack time,” free-range squirrel monkeys, and other animal interactions are the attraction.
Visitors can interact with rabbits and guinea pigs, and feed elephants and giraffes.
At the Children’s Zoo, visitors can interact with rabbits and guinea pigs, and the “petting and feeding” experience at the elephant house is also popular.
At the Hachu-Urui Pavilion, visitors can get up close and personal with about 40 different species of reptiles. The “Gaokoku,” a fierce animal house, is also popular.
Near the elephant house is a restaurant called “Elephant Cafe,” where the “Kamine Burger” with a patty of Hitachi beef and slices of Ibaraki Prefecture’s lotus root is very popular.
